Bohol DIY Trip - Day 1 Country Side Tour

Usually during my birthday, I travel alone. Just to check some items in my list of must-see. Last year, I went to Bohol, to see the famed Chocolate Hills, the tarsiers and ride the Loboc River cruise.

Here's my DIY trip to Bohol. Since I am a solo backpacker, I opted to ride a habal-habal to take me to these places in Bohol. I do not advise for anyone to take public transportation as the entrances of some attractions are too far to the actual site. If there are more of you travelling, opt to rent a car or van where you can visit these places in convenience.

Upon arrival at Tagbilaran Airport, the nearest spot is the Sandugo site where Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi was said to have a blood compact with Datu Sikatuna. No entrance fee for this.

I stayed just a few minutes to take pictures. It also have a magnificent view of the sea at the back of the monument.

Further on, since I arrived around 11AM, my guide took me to have lunch at the Loboc River Cruise. The entrance fee is inclusive of lunch and the 1 hour cruise (to and from the floating boat terminals). I shelled out Php450 inclusive of the cruise and buffet lunch.

Along the river, aside from the view of the forest, you'll see boys diving and a group of locals doping folk dance and songs. The boat will make a stop over for these performances.

I continued my countryside tour by visiting the tarsier sanctuary.

I paid only Php60 to enter and see the smallest primate in the world.

Tarsiers are usually nocturnal so they are all sleeping. No flash camera allowed.

Going to the Chocolatet Hills, you'll pass by the picturesque Manmade Forest wheere you can make a stop over to take pictures. 

From the Man-made forest, you'll pass by Baclayon Church gping to Carmen, Bohol to see the Chocolate Hills.

The Baclayon Church is among those under renovation after Bohol was hit by an 7.2 magnitude earthquake in October 2013.

As mentioned, the entrance to the viewdeck is at least a kilometer walk so it is really best to come with transportation. From the foot of the viewdeck, it's another 15 minutes climb to the top where you can have this view of the Chocolate Hills. Entrance fee is only Php50.00.

After the arduous trip in a habal-habal, I opted to go back to Panglao where I booked my overnight stay.

KFC's Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Meal

Okay, I am not an endorser of KFC, it just so happen that I ate there yesterday for lunch and I saw this new chicken meal. I am an avid fan of salted egg flavored chips and popcorn so when I saw this, I have to taste it. From the photo on the menuboard, it looked appetizing.

Here's my verdict:

The actual product is not as coated as the one in the picture but the rice is indeed garlic rice. My bad is that I am looking for that salted egg, I didn't realized there would be none because as the name suggests, it's salted egg yolk, that gooey yellow liquid sauce. Come to think of it, usually salted egg yolks are hard because the egg itself is a boiled egg right? Oh well, they must have add water to the yolk to turn it into a sauce.

Another item I didn't ask is if the chicken is original or spicy, and when I started digging in, it is a spicy chicken variety. Just like their honey glazed chicken, the salted egg yolk did not make the chicken skin soggy. It is still crispy. And surprisingly, the salted egg yolk works with the spicy chicken, it is delicious! The garlic rice is a perfect combo with this.

For Php115.00, it comes with a drink and soup, so it's worth it.
